Norm enlisted in the RAAF in 1941.He was involved in the formation of 453 Squadron in England which was an all Australian Spitfire unit. He later transferred to 137 Squadron RAF flying Hawker Typhoons. Norm was shot down near the end of the war which resulted in him becoming a PoW. His story is about encountering a large group of enemy aircraft, scoring the first hit for 453 squadron.
